Purpose of the Worship & Services Committee
The purpose of this committee is to assure the smooth flow of church service by performing and/or coordinating the details necessary to provide support to the Minister, and to maintain a suitable atmosphere before, during, and after the service.
The committee evaluates current services, discussing and exploring ideas we believe will enhance the spiritual and/or personal needs of our congregation. We encourage church members to be active in service by lighting the chalice. Through involvement and interaction with the congregation, we explore elements that will provide inspiration, education, and transformation for our church members. Our goal is to provide a refuge from daily drudgery; to provide services where each person comes away with something they can hold on to.
We have worked in conjunction with the Sabbatical Committee in planning church services during the Minister's absence. One of our responsibilities is to set up and provide Summer Services. We have been sponsoring lay-led services - providing a more relaxed and intimate gathering for our Summer church goers and an opportunity for church members to do service by leading these services. Our summer attendants have enjoyed the diversity of the offerings provided. The committee wants to support the church's attempts at minimizing expense without sacrifice to the quality of service.
The committee sponsors "Twilight Services" as part of our effort to provide the congregation with an alternative service option to gather in spirit and community. Twilight Services are generally offered the first Sunday evening of each month, hosting a variety of presenters, some church members and some others, who have experience and/or expertise in areas of interest we feel would be of value to our congregation. Feedback from those who attended was favorable. Though some services were sparsely attended, the program is catching on and we will continue to work on these offerings. These services are still new to the congregation. Through continuity and the impressions of those who attend we believe this program will grow and blossom. These services are announced in the Church Newsletter, the Order of Service, the Nashua Telegraph, and on the website. We want our church to continue to grow in membership and strength and we hope that our announcements in the Nashua Telegraph and on the website will generate interest in the surrounding community to come visit and find out more about us.
