Special Program

Access Umbrella, Inc. --  Diversity Training

Kurt Kuss and Barbara Ceconi spent a morning in an assembly with the church school children talking about what it is like to be blind.  They brought one of their seeing eye dogs with them.

 Music

Treble Choir led by Sandra LaBarge-Neumann for youth with unchanged voices from 2nd to 9th grades.

Under the leadership of Chris Parker, with support from the Religious Education Committee, the Religious Education program continues to offer vibrant learning opportunities to the youth in our congregation.  As outlined in the above table, students have been involved in fund-raising for community groups and diversity training.

Members of the Executive Board and the RE Committee reviewed the OWL curriculum and it was agreed that it is a valuable program to continue to offer to our youth.  It was noted that RE committee members should attend the parent orientation, so they can support the program and be able to answer questions from parents/guardians.

2002-03 Religious Education Committee Annual Report, Page 2

A meeting was held in March with about 25 parents, students, youth leaders, and RE committee members to discuss the Senior High program.  Support was voiced for the current program, but some wanted an option of a morning program.  The Sunday evening Senior High Youth program will continue next year.  In addition, Frank Grossman will be leading a Youth Group on Sunday mornings.  Students can attend one or both programs.  Work is underway to establish a Young Adult Group, which would serve the needs of people in their late teens through 20s.

Other activities for the RE program during the year included: a Social for each class; a Pizza and Games Night for the RE teachers and their families; a Friendship Service in May; and presentations by children and adults during the Thanksgiving and White Gifts services.

Respectfully submitted,

Marie Keifer – Religious Education Committee Chairperson
